As part of Scotland’s Festival of Architecture 2016, New Media Scotland’s Alt-w Fund commissioned a series of new works for the Travelling Gallery, by digital media practitioners based in Scotland. The Alt-w Fund was set up to encourage artists to explore experimental and interactive practice, making use of technology as a platform and a medium, to reflect the continuously changing role that digital culture plays in society.
For Alt-w: Blush Response, each newly commissioned artwork had two related elements; a smaller work to suit the unique Travelling Gallery space (a repurposed bus) and a larger work installed at a specific site. During its tour for this programme, the Travelling Gallery visited all the larger works’ locations across Scotland, bringing the dual manifestations of each project together (temporarily) along the way.
